Suthar came from the Sanskrit word Sootradhar. According to the Brahma Purana, they are offspring of Vishwakarma. Their main occupation is wood carpentry.
The Indian culture especially, in Maharashtra, a unique systeme of Bara Balutedar was in existence which catagorises all woks that carries out entire Gaon Rahati in to 12 different sections. Sutar Kam (wood Carpentry) is one of them.
